DVLA Vehicle Tax - Taking the Piss?

Could have knocked me down with a feather this morning when I received by car tax through. Ok my car is old, 2007, but in recent years the yearly increase since 2015 has gone £5.25, £10.50, £10.50, £10.50, £5.25, £10.50 - Last year was a big enough shock going up £15.75 but I couldn't believe my eyes to see today it has a yearly increase of £36.75, a whopping £383.25!! Is it a way to force us all to electric>?

They want you off the road.
It starts with small increases in everything to do with cars.
Soon they’ll be scrapping car tax and going to pay by mile. 15 minute cuties and neighbourhoods.

Correction it’s twenty pound tax according to the Mrs , Westside ..I have a 2018 Vitara … 160 tax so I question what you’ve said or I have read that wrong ?
it's currently still zero, for fully electric vehicles, hybrids pay £10 per annum.

Correction it’s twenty pound tax according to the Mrs , Westside ..I have a 2018 Vitara … 160 tax so I question what you’ve said or I have read that wrong ?

My Mrs has a Suzuki Ignis , petrol but with two lithium batteries that do something that I’m not really sure about . Anyway ten pound car tax about sixty to the gallon will go four wheel drive when slippy , and indeed I bought it just prior to the beast from the east and it was good in the snow . Fun to drive , SHVS Allgrip .

All cars registered since 2016 pay a flat rate of £180 irrespective of size, emissions etc.
Electric cars don't. Yet.

All cars registered since 2016 pay a flat rate of £180 irrespective of size, emissions etc. Probably done to encourage newer cleaner cars. Introduced by this government.

Plans were announced by London Mayor Boris Johnson in March 2015 for the zone to come into operation in September 2020.
And who was mayor then?
And for the original congestion charge?

So it's all down to the GOVT and inflation. Just looked at a graph - GBP inflation since 2015 and whilst the rise in my car tax kind of makes sense looking at the graph between 2015 and 2021, 2022 and 2023 both show 10.7% so therefore shouldn't it just have gone up the same as last year? Or am I just being too simplistic?

A lot of the cameras are already in place and the video management software is probably already configured to calculate road usage anyway.
And the government are not pushing nationwide fibre access everywhere for the benefit of people in remote villages using moody streams...

The original congestion charge was introduced on 17th February 2003,as promised by Ken Livingstone, in his 2000 mayoral election campaign.
Boris was mayor from 2008, to 2016.
The ULEZ charge was introduced in April 2019.
How were either implemented by Boris?
